The Lexington Farmers Market, Kentucky’s largest, will be having its first Annual Farm Tour on Saturday, June 21st, from 8am to 2pm. Farms will open their doors to the public for this interesting look into how local food groups are grown.

Bluegrass Lamb & Goat of Paint Lick has been approved as a federally inspected meat processing facility by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The producer-owned Paint Lick business opened last October.

Governor Unveils KARE Initiative
Gov. Steve Beshear recently unveiled an $8.15 million initiative to help farmers whose crops were damaged by severe weather conditions last year – the late freeze last spring and extensive drought throughout the summer and fall.
KADB Approves KCARD Funding Request
The Kentucky Agricultural Development Board approved $410,000 in state funds to provide business support services and technical assistance to rural agribusinesses across Kentucky. This proposal was one of the twenty-three projects, approved at the March KADB Meeting.
Kentucky Ag Finance Program Changes
The Kentucky Agricultural Finance Corporation Board has expanded the policies of two loan programs in an effort to reach more potential applicants across the Commonwealth. The Agricultural Infrastructure Loan Program participant’s maximum has been increased from $100,000 to $250,000 or 50% of total project costs.
Roger Thomas Named Executive Director of GOAP
Governor Steve Beshear recently announced the appointment of Roger Thomas, 57, as Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Agriculture Policy.
Most recently, Thomas served as Executive Director of the Kentucky Dairy Development Council. He served as a state representative for the 21st district in the Kentucky General Assembly from 1996-2004.
