KCARD Winter Grant Workshops

The Agribusiness Grant Facilitation Program of the Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD) will be hosting a series of grant workshops this winter in an effort to assist agricultural producers and rural businesses identify grant opportunities and develop a strategy for seeking out those funds.

The first workshop of the season will take place at the Madison County Cooperative Extension office in Richmond on December 16, 2014, and the second winter workshop will take place at the Fleming County Cooperative Extension office in Flemingsburg on December 19, 2014.

“The grant process can be a little overwhelming for farmers. The workshops help them get more information about funding opportunities and how to apply,” explained Myrisa Christy, the Agribusiness Grant Facilitation Program Coordinator. “Participants get to ask questions, learn about how different programs work, and begin working on their own grant plans.”

The workshops are designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to learn how to search for grants, how to prepare strong applications, as well as how to connect with other resources available for their operations. Each workshop will bring together speakers who work directly with national and state funding programs.  Individuals from USDA, Kentucky Department of Agriculture, Kentucky Governor’s Office of Agricultural Policy, Kentucky State University and the University of Kentucky will also be in attendance to expose participants to the different programs and services offered by these partners.

“In order to be competitive for funding applicants must make a strong case for their projects. Our intention is that these workshops give them to tools they need to identify a program that works for them and then be able to put together a competitive application,” explained Christy.

There will be a $10 per person fee to attend the workshop, but lunch will be provided! For further information and to register visit Growing Kentucky Agriculture at www.growkentuckyag.com or contact Myrisa Christy at mchristy@growkentuckyag.com or 270-883-2392.  Additional workshops will take place in January and February 2015, the dates and times for those workshops will be announced in the weeks ahead.
