Q&A with Mattea Mitchell: Business Development Assistance

Q: What is your role at KCARD?

A: Here at KCARD, I serve as a Business Development Assistant. I have the opportunity to work as part of KCARD's Business Development team to assist agricultural businesses across the state with business plans, financials, funding opportunities, feasibility studies, etc. I started my journey with KCARD this past January.

Q: How did your previous experiences help you in your current role?

A: I previously served as the Hickman County Agriculture and Natural Resources Extension Agent for seven years. Through my work in extension, I was able to gain knowledge about an array of topics. I was able to work hand-in-hand with many organizations with missions that coincide with KCARD's mission.  I worked a great deal with the establishment of the Hickman County Farmers Market in Clinton, KY. This has led to an interest in farmers’ markets across the state - something I am looking forward to working within my new role.

Q: What other activities have you been involved in at KCARD?

A: In addition to assisting with business development, I am helping KCARD develop communication and marketing tools and working with new inquiries to KCARD to figure out their needs and what resources they could use.

Q: What is your favorite activity so far?

A: My favorite part of my job so far is connecting with new clientele. There is no better feeling than a person contacting our organization, and us answering their questions, or connecting them with the resources that they need to grow their business. Knowing that we are able to help others achieve their goals is something I am so grateful for every day. Always working for the good of others!

Q: What is your favorite local product, and why?

A: This is a tough question! Two products come to mind. The first is local honey. I cannot get enough of Goodfamily Honey, and Mr. Bob’s Honey. There is nothing better than hot tea with honey, or a warm biscuit with honey drizzled on top! The second would be a fresh peach from Cunningham Farms in the summer heat. I am also thankful to call all of these business owners my friends.
