Summer 2026 Internship
Position Overview
The Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD) is seeking a motivated and qualified intern to join our team for Summer 2026. KCARD is a statewide nonprofit that supports Kentucky’s agricultural businesses, including farmers, farmers’ markets, agritourism operations, value-added processors, cooperatives, meat processors, grain handlers, horticultural businesses, and many more.
This paid 8 to 10-week internship offers the opportunity to gain hands-on, professional experience working directly with agribusinesses at various stages of growth, as well as collaborating with agricultural organizations across the state. The role is primarily remote, with occasional in-state travel.
This position is an excellent fit for students interested in finance, marketing, business development, or entrepreneurship, particularly those who aspire to careers in the agriculture and food systems sector. Course credit may be arranged through the student’s university.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with KCARD staff to develop business plans and pro forma financial projections for Kentucky and regional agribusinesses.
Conduct research and analysis on consumer behavior, agricultural markets, and industry trends.
Support special projects, including feasibility studies, business management assessments, operational analysis, survey distribution, and workshop delivery.
Contribute to marketing and communications efforts, such as creating website content, developing social media posts, and preparing outreach materials.
Assist with database management and program tracking.
Take initiative on independent projects as assigned, with opportunities to shape work based on personal interests and career goals.
Candidate Requirements
Junior, Senior, or Graduate student enrolled in a degree program in Economics, Marketing, Finance, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field.
Strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 GPA).
Familiarity with the agricultural industry and/or food systems.
Detail-oriented, organized, and self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
