Q&A with AgVets Intern Kristen Kalm

1) Tell us a bit about yourself. Where are you from originally and how long have you been at Fort Campbell? What is your current rank and position?

I’m from Rochester, NY originally. I was first stationed in Georgia, then to Fort Campbell.  I’ve been at Fort Campbell for 4 and a half years now.  I’m a specialist and work in the orderly room handing administrative tasks day to day.   My actual job is a CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear) Specialist.

2) What are your plans after you exit the service?

Once I ETS I want to go to school to earn my veterinary technician certification to eventually become a veterinarian long-term.

3) What is your favorite part of your internship?

 Assisting with surgery!

4) Why were you interested in pursuing an internship in agriculture for your CSP program?

I wanted to work with animals in a veterinary setting to learn more about what that career path involved. The internship is a good way for me to get experience and make connections with those already doing the work I want to do.

5) Who is your intern host?

Todd County Animal Clinic. They work with both large and small animals, which gives me a lot of experience with different situations. Everyone here is so nice, incredibly helpful, and knowledgeable.
