Internship Opportunity

Would you like to learn more about how Kentucky’s agricultural businesses operate and how your classwork applies to real-world business situations? 

The Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development (KCARD) is currently searching for a college junior, senior, or graduate student majoring in Agricultural Economics to serve as a paid intern for summer 2019. The internship will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity for a professional learning experience while assisting with a variety of interesting agribusiness development projects around Kentucky.

KCARD works with farmers, farmers markets, agritourism operations, value-added operations, cooperatives, Community-Supported Agriculture (CSAs) operations, meat processing facilities, grain handling operations, horticultural businesses, and many other agricultural-related businesses operating in Kentucky. 

We help entrepreneurs with feasibility studies, business/marketing plan development, market research, cooperative incorporation assistance, capitalization planning, and record-keeping systems setup. KCARD helps more established businesses and organizations with profitability analysis, record keeping analysis, market research and validation of assumptions, complete business management and operations analysis and board of director training.

Duties:

  • Assist KCARD staff with current projects, which could include helping administer surveys, perform data analysis, and perform market research

  • Assist with the development of businesses

  • Design decision making tools

  • Aid in the rewarding work of developing solutions that meet clients’ needs

Qualifications:

  • College Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student

  • Major area of study in Agricultural Economics

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong work ethic with a self-motivated nature

KCARD interns have flexible scheduling options available.

College credit is available for this internship and it is expected that the successful intern will work between 10-20 hours per week.

Location: Lexington, KY. Some travel may be required.
