Jericho Farmhouse: Cool off with local ice cream!

Jericho Farmhouse is an ice cream shop and farm market in Henry County, KY owned by the Coombs Family. The Coombs family operated a dairy farm for generations until 2018, when their milk processor informed the family that their milk was no longer needed because the plant was being closed.  Later that year, they had to sell their entire milking herd and started thinking about the future of the farm.

At this point, Carilynn heard about KCARD through a friend and reached out for help. After working on a business plan and reviewing financial projections with Brent Lackey, the family came up with a plan that consisted of selling ice cream, operating a farm market that displays local products, and eventually, getting back to their dairy farm roots.

The Coombs family has worked with KCARD throughout  various stages of business development, grant facilitation, and recordkeeping. “KCARD helped us identify opportunities that we didn’t even know existed and made us aware of things we should expect as we moved forward,” Carilynn says.

Now, the Coombs family at Jericho Farmhouse is still working hard towards their ultimate goal of reviving the family dairy farm by offering ice cream, beef, a place for local farmers to sell their products, and plenty of fun farm experiences. You can check out their website HERE or visit them at the farm on Thursdays-Sundays of each week.
