Q&A with Kellie Padgett: AgVets Program

Q: What is your role at KCARD?

Here at KCARD, I work as a Business Development Specialist. This means I get the opportunity to work with agriculture businesses as they develop business plans, create and maintain financial projections, apply for funding opportunities, and can serve as a sounding board for expansion projects. I am heading into my fourth year here at KCARD.

Q: What is the KCARD AgVets Program?

This is a new program that we are launching with many other partners to help veterans and active-duty service members interested in entering agricultural fields.

Q: Who can participate in the project?

Any veteran who is interested in pursuing a career in agriculture or already involved in agriculture, as well as transitioning servicemembers who are interested in participating in a Career Skills Program Internship through Fort Campbell or Fort Knox.

Q: What will participants leave with? (internship, job, training, etc.)

Participants will learn about what is needed for different agricultural enterprises to be successful, discover what resources are out there to help them, be eligible to take coursework through Kentucky’s community college system, and become a part of a mentor relationship with existing farmers in Kentucky.

Q: How do we get involved in the project?

Please contact the KCARD main office line at 859-550-3972 or send me an email at kpadgett@kcard.info. We need both participants looking to learn more about agriculture as well as mentor farmers. We are excited to work with our partners to help connect to the resources they need.

Q: What is your favorite Dippin’ Dots flavor?

Cookies and cream is my favorite flavor by far!
