Q&A with Haleigh Young: KCARD and the New Client Process

Q: What is your role at KCARD?

I typically will be the first person a new client talks to. After an initial call, I work with the client to develop a first draft of the business plan while coordinating with the business development staff. I also work behind the scenes to assist business development staff by pulling market data, formatting business plans, gathering financial data, and any other tasks that may help the process along.

Q: Why is the first call so important?

When we have a new client reach out to KCARD it is important that we capture what the business is and how KCARD can help. Many times, a new call may come from a referral or seeing our staff at a conference. This initial call allows me to describe who KCARD is and what services we offer. Along with learning more about KCARD, the initial call allows or me to learn more about your business. After our initial call, I will send resources that are tailored to your business and work with you to answer preliminary questions.

Q: What are some questions that are asked during a first call?

On an initial call, I ask you to describe your business. I will ask you about current production, future production goals, sales, marketing, and business goals. These questions are meant to be concise while still gathering the information we need to provide appropriate resources to your business and also help us figure out who on our staff will be best to work with you on your needs.

Q: Why do we ask about your location?

When you provide your location, it allows KCARD staff to determine resources that are specific to your area, provide you with contact information for local offices and representatives, find funding opportunities, and better understand your business. Your location also provides KCARD with the ability to see where demand is for our services and allows us to allocate resources to specific regions.

Q: What is something potential business development clients should know about KCARD?

When working through the Business Plan Development Guide there are questions that you may not be able to answer right away and that is okay. KCARD is here to help you figure out those blank areas. There are also some tough questions that relate to your business and financials that can intimidating to work through and share.

Q: What is your favorite thing to do in the fall?

My favorite thing to do in the fall is to sit outside around a fire with friends and family while roasting marshmallows. If you have never tried a Reese’s on your s’ more… you are missing out!
